The Luxury Gap

30 years ago Heaven 17 released The Luxury Gap and last night they played it live for the first time at London's Roundhouse. Following on from last years anniversary tour of Penthouse & Pavement when Glen promised they would do an anniversary thing for Luxury Gap as well.
After drinks with Andrew and Sarah in Camden with 80's songs blasting out in the pub we went to the venue. This was billed as being the first ever concert using 3D sound, apart from a lot of speakers though I didn't really get what 3D sound is, but it did sound very good if no different from any other concert.

They played The Luxury Gap from start to finish, and it was strange to have their mega hit Temptation just slotted in as an album track, it was originally the last track on side 1. After the album had finished they treated us to their hits from Penthouse and a few Human League songs. The big encore though was a fabulous extended 12 inch version of Temptation with lots of great screaming from Billie Godfrey doing justice to Carol Kenyons original vocals on the album. 30 years is a long time to wait but it was well worth it.

I thought is was a brilliant gig - worth the wait. The sound quality was very good - I was way over left of stage but it didn't sound at all distorted - maybe down to the 3D. It was a real treat to hear some of those tracks done live for the first time. The fast pace of 'We Live So Fast', the slow ballad-esque 'Come Live With Me' and the surreal 'Lady Ice and Mr Hex' were all done superbly. Throw in some 'Fascist Groove Thang', Brilliant vocals from Elly Jackson and some Human league tracks and I'd say it was right up there with the best ever gigs! Alan in Huntingdon.
