Walking up Camden Road there was no doubt about where her house was as you just followed the people with flowers. As you entered Camden Square there were little shrines and flowers placed all around the fence and when you got to Amy's house there was a spot in the park right opposite piled high and also right outside her house. There was still the police tape outside and a security guard at the gate and cars slowing down to drive past along with all the people there.
I don't know how comfortable I felt with all the bottles of JD left there, I can totally see how some people say it's like leaving bullets at John Lennon's shrine. On the other hand I have always enjoyed a Jack Daniels (not to the same extent) and I would hope on my passing people would be raising a glass of JD or 2 to my memory.
On some crap TV show this morning Christine Hamilton was banging on how awful she thought it was boozed up fans sobbing outside Amy's house. It was nothing like that, no one was "boozed up" and the people there ranged from funky Camden types, to old grannies to middle aged men like me, it was all very respectful.
I put Back To Black on my headphones, left my little tribute and just stood there thinking how weird it all was. BTB was released years ago and since then all it's been is her dirty washing in the tabloids. Take Britney's meltdown, multiply it by 1000 and then drag it out for 4 years and you have an idea about what Amy was going through.
