The Rock

I had a trip booked yesterday, visiting Alcatraz and a city sightseeing tour. The tour company was a bit of a fiasco and it would have been better to have booked the 2 excursions independently but you live and learn. Alcatraz was fascinating, I did the whole tour there with the headphones and got banged up in a cell. I felt like Sean Connery in there. They should bring prisons like this back! The place was desolate and must have been awful and the flies in there were vile.

The views of San Francisco from there were incredible I'm really glad I made the effort to do it. The sightseeing tour was a bit tacky, the driver thought he was a comedian and he kept on about his family and stuff. The hill billys on the tour bus seemed to enjoy it though. We went to all the regular places some of which I have seen before but it was a chance to get to see things I'd never get around to on my own. We stopped at the base of the Golden Gate Bridge and it was a lovely day to see it close up. We spent ages going through the park which was a bit pointless as everyone has seen a park before but then we drove through all the Victorian neighborhoods which were lovely. The highlight was driving up to the top of Twin Peaks and seeing the city stretched out before me. It really was stunning and I could make out loads of things even the flag flying at the top of the Castro.
It dropped me off at Fishermans wharf and I bumped into this Dutch guy who is staying at the same hotel, we took the trolley back and went for dinner together at the Sausage Factory. We went our separate ways as I needed a nap and then I went out later for a drink. The great thing about the USA for us Brits is that everything is half price and the food and drink portions are ten times the size! I only had 4 gins and I was rolling back to the hotel. I missed breakfast this morning as I had a lie in but am going to get some brunch now.
